orDrumbox: Java Software Drum Machine. Audio Sequencer with Drum Kits and Automatic Composer

How to start with the orDrumbox

Create a minimal song

Just click on the "play" button on the transport bar and the demo song will play. This demo song contains many usefull patterns, this is not a real song. If you like a pattern, just select the radio button "pattern" on the transport bar, then click on play, and the current pattern will play in loop.

To create a new song from scratch, go to the file menu and click on the item new.

Then go to the Tools menu and select auto generate pattern Then in the transport bar, select pattern radio button, select autovariation check box, ajust the tempo at your convinence and play. The orDrumbox create a pattern that you can modify

Add a track with the add button on the pattern windows, then click two times (not double click) on the first step (named step: 0) of this track (the first black rectangle) then select arpege on the pop up windows, then close the pop up windows. Click two times on the step 2 on the same track then select loop on the pop-up windows, close the pop up windows. This is a loop point for this track

Then, select your new track on the pattern windows, click on the modify button, select a sample (some melodic instrument ) and select a scale(only the maj scale is available, but you can add one with the scale windows) and listen to the result.. It's a cool way to be creative using unconventional drum samples.

Go to the file menu, and try to load another kit, result is amazing

Importing your samples

Choose the Instrument list window and press the add button. The classic open file dialog box will appear.

Then browse your local disk inside this dialog box and find a wav file on your local disk. This wav file should be a sample of a drum instrument like a bass drum or a snare drum but any sound file will work ...

Once you have your instrument in the instrument list window, go to the new pattern window and click on the add button

Select the track: Just click on the "no name" label on the left

Then go to the tools menu and choose the item fill track. Somes green squares will appear.

Go to the transport bar window, choose the pattern radio button and click on the play button. You will hear somes variations of your wave file.

That's all to start with the ordrumbox, you can try now to create a real song. The second step is may be to load somes demo songs to see how this songs are created.
